About OpenCopy

An independent press for people who learn by reading.

OpenCopy publishes interlinear books: real literature in the original language, with a literal English gloss printed directly beneath every word. No glossaries, no flashcards, no losing your place. You simply read, and the language comes with you.

The method is old; scholars have read this way for centuries, but most interlinear texts stopped being printed generations ago. We gloss classics, fables, scripture and vocabulary by hand, and publish them as paperbacks and Kindle ebooks on Amazon in seven languages.

The best argument for the method is seeing a page of it, so every flagship edition shows real interior spreads before you buy, and the How-it-works page walks through the method in detail.

What we stand on

Four commitments.

01

Glossed by hand

Every edition is glossed word by word and reviewed line by line. Literal glosses that preserve the original word order are the whole product, so they have to be right.

02

Real literature

Kafka, Cervantes, Maupassant, the Grimms, the Luther Bible. We publish the texts a language is actually made of, unabridged, not simplified readers.

03

Look before you buy

Every flagship edition shows real interior pages on the Look-inside page: actual spreads from the printed book, not mock-ups. You see exactly what you're getting.

04

Community sharpened

Glosses improve with feedback from learners and native speakers. If you spot something, tell us, and the next printing will be better for it.
