How it works.
An interlinear book prints the English meaning of every word directly beneath the original. You read real literature from the first page, and the help is there the instant you need it.
hand-set to show the idea; the printed pages below are the real thing
Reading is the method.
No flashcards, no drills. The book itself does the teaching.
Nothing to look up
The meaning of every word sits right beneath it, so you never leave the page for a dictionary. You stay inside the story, and the story keeps its pace.
Grammar you can see
The gloss stays close to the original word order, even where the literal phrasing reads differently from natural English. You watch, sentence by sentence, exactly how the language is built.
Vocabulary that sticks
You meet each word inside real sentences, again and again, in context. That repetition in living text is what moves words into long-term memory.

How to read one.
Pick your language
We publish in German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and Chinese. Chinese editions carry a pinyin line as well as the gloss.
Choose an edition
Classics, fables, scripture and vocabulary builders. Each book page lists the reading level and length, and the sample pages show exactly what you will hold.
Read the original line
Read the original as it was written. Your eyes drop to the gloss only when you need it, and less and less as the book goes on.
Test yourself
Cover the gloss line with a bookmark and reread a passage. It is the simplest possible check of what you have actually absorbed.
Seven languages, one method: every word translated beneath the original.
